The remains of the father
BB and Elisa del Prete, director of the Nosadella.due residency
in Bologna start preliminary archival research in Bologna, Rome
and Turin. Intrigued by the construct of erased memory as a political
and social legacy, BB and EDP will research ethnographic aspects
of the Italian Colonial Project in Africa, a period of Italian
history which is offered a cursory position within Italian
contemporary historiography.
Researching Italian colonial Africa films, travelogues kept by
Italian women during expeditions to Africa, and working with
conflicting themes from modernist architectural mobilisation
to the nomadism of street-walking, BB and EDP will produce a
filmic fiction of lost memory and silent evidence in cities in
Eritrea, Ethiopia and Bologna.

Cosy Nook
Collage of 3 kodak prints with the artist’s sister in the cosy nook
in 1979, Number 17 Lower Ridge Road, East London, South Africa.
BB is the recipient of South African National Arts Council funding
to direct a film project with her mother and step-father as subjects.
Sitting in a reconstructed set, a replica of the cosy nook in BB’s
first home placed with original furniture and objects, BB’s mother
and step-father are involved in a conversation themed around the
history of the house that BB’s father designed and had built in 1958,
which now no longer exists. Cosy Nook will be shot on 16mm film and
is designed as a piece for two film projections.
